After months of fundraising, the Rotary Club of Hunstanton and District have started their ‘Dictionary 4 Life Project’ – handing out free dictionaries for local schoolchildren.

Year 5 students from Heacham Junior School were presented their dictionaries by Hunstanton Rotary Club president John Crofts and fellow member Peter Gohegan of Mr Bun the Baker.

Rotary have raised funds throughout the year from events such as Norton Hill Light Railway weekend and the Hunstanton Kite and Classic Car festival.

It is part of the national Rotary Club ‘Dictionary 4 Life Project’ where they strive to encourage the intelligent and self-guided use of dictionaries for primary school children all around the country.

Hunstanton Rotary Club president John Crofts said:

“We’re delighted annually to come and present dictionaries to the primary schools in the area. These are provided by Usborne books to reduce cost to us and then our fundraising during the year goes towards paying for the remainder of the costs.

“We’re very fortunate on this occasion to have three sponsors: Mr Bun the Baker, Georgie’s Café and Hughes electrical, all located on the high street in Hunstanton.

“It’s a great pleasure and it shows our commitment to the schools in the area and to making sure literacy is encouraged in all of these schools.”

The club have already presented dictionaries to schoolchildren in Ingoldisthorpe, Snettisham, Sedgeford and Docking and are looking forward to visiting Dersingham, Brancaster and Hunstanton schools in the next few weeks.
