Cllr Sandra Squire says debris 'is a danger to dogs and people walking in that area'
It's feared the sinkhole on the South Promenade could be releasing debris that contains asbestos.
"The recent damage to the promenade, that has opened a hole, has also released mixed debris, including potentially some small amounts of asbestos from underneath," says Cllr Sandra Squire, Cabinet Member for Environment and Coastal.

"This has scattered on the beach close to where the cavity is, between the Waterside Bar and the Oasis. Please be aware of this, as it is a danger to dogs and people walking in that area.
"Please avoid should you see any, the council has engaged a local specialist asbestos removal company to periodically litter pick any debris."

A cordon's in place whilst emergency repairs take place, which the Borough Council says could take 'some time'.
Photos from inside the hole have been released, the councils says, 'these display that the cavity inside is larger than the hole above it.'

Cllr Sandra Squire continues, "A small section between the Waterside Bar and the Oasis has been fenced off while our teams carry out essential work, but all businesses in the area remain fully accessible.
“Borough Council officers will update borough and town councillors this week on the findings of the recent radar survey and the next steps. We simply ask visitors to follow safety guidance, avoid fenced off areas, and keep clear of ongoing works.”
