Council leader says we need to keep moving forward

Norfolk County Council has published a review of the 'Better Together for Norfolk' strategy, setting out their priorities for the next two years

The report reflects the council’s milestones since 2021 and sets out a practical roadmap to maintain momentum, while preparing for major changes in local government.

Speaking at the council’s cabinet meeting, councillor Kay Mason Billig, leader of Norfolk County Council, says, "This review shows how we have delivered for our communities in the face of unprecedented challenges - from the impact of the pandemic to sustained financial pressures.

"The strategy has allowed us to adapt to these challenges and to support our long-term ambition for inclusive growth in Norfolk.”

Over the next two years Norfolk County Council says it will prepare for local government reform, while continuing to serve Norfolk residents.

Kay Mason Billig adds, “We can be proud of what we have achieved but we need to keep moving forward. We are facing major changes in local government but we need to continue to grow the economy, help our residents to thrive and build strong local communities.”

Since 2021 the council says it has achieved:

  • Economic Growth & Infrastructure: Major projects such as the £121m Great Yarmouth Third River Crossing and £46.9m Long Stratton Bypass.
  • Children & Families: Ofsted rated Children’s Services “Good” in all areas; 670 new special school places created; over 170,000 targeted interventions through Norfolk family hubs.
  • Adult Social Care & Health: Worked with health care partners to expanded reablement capacity by 40%; supported 31,000 people last year who required adult social care; introduced AI-led fall prevention, recognised nationally as best practice.
  • Community & Environment: £58m distributed to vulnerable households through the Household Support Fund; 650,000 trees planted as part of the One Million Trees campaign
