Council apprentices ‘get up and grow’ this February

National Apprenticeship week runs from today to 9th February

The Borough Council has run a successful apprenticeship scheme for 8 years, supporting employees by offering a broad spectrum of apprenticeships across a variety of fields. At the moment, there are 30 apprentices working towards qualifications.

As part of the week-long celebration, a fresh campaign will be launched highlighting the apprentices, their successes and experiences while earning and learning at the council.

All apprentices are being asked to take part in the campaign. In addition, Stephanie Glasser (Accountancy) and Holly Attlesey (Waste & Recycling) have participated in the East of England Apprentice Challenge, competing to be the Local Government Apprentice of Year.

Stephanie says “For me, working for the council means making a practical and positive impact to the lives of people living and working in the borough. The borough council is committed to understanding employees’ needs and maximising their potential to progress in their professional development.”

A spokesman for the council said: “As a council we really feel that the apprenticeship scheme is worthy of our support. We encourage lifelong learning and an apprenticeship scheme is an excellent way of achieving career progression for individuals and an improved workforce for the council.”

“Because of our positive experience we would encourage other local businesses to consider developing their own apprenticeship scheme”

This is all part of the campaign #GetUpandGrow that has been run by the East of England Local Government Association since 2017.
