North Wootton Village Hall Announces Coronation Celebrations

Following Buckingham Palace’s announcement that ceremonial, celebratory, and community events will take place over the Coronation Weekend, North Wootton Village Hall will be holding a Coronation Big Lunch between 11am and 5:30pm on Sunday 7th May, with village-wide competitions in the run up to the big day.

The Village Hall has played host to many celebrations of royal milestones including last year’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, and was even the village’s televisual hub for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III will be no exception.

Taking place from 29th April until the day of the Coronation Big Lunch, a ‘Kings and Queens’ themed Scarecrow Trail will see scarecrows displayed in front gardens throughout North Wootton, as well as some in public areas such as the Village Hall. Once entries are confirmed, a map will be made available for download from the Village Hall’s website.

The second curtain-opener to North Wootton’s Coronation Celebrations is a Best Decorated Home competition. North Wootton Village Hall is inviting villagers to decorate the exterior of their homes in red, white, and blue for the Coronation weekend. Prizes are available for the winners of both competitions.

The Coronation Big Lunch itself on Sunday 7th May will be a street party style event held at the Village Hall and will be FREE for villagers to attend. Between 11am and 5:30pm, there will be live music from The Eddie Seales Big Band and Claire Scollay, face painting by Rainbow Tiger Face Painting, village fete style games to play, competitions, and food and drink.

Antony Lamb, North Wootton Village Hall’s Events Organiser, said: "Given the many challenges we as a community and indeed the country as a whole has faced in recent times, the Coronation is a wonderful opportunity to come together to mark this historic occasion. Thanks to funding from The National Lottery, the Coronation Big Lunch will be free for all villagers to attend and promises to be a fantastic day.”

The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK, has awarded a grant to North Wootton Village Hall which will fund the Coronation celebrations.

On Monday 8th May, the Village Hall will open once more between 10am and 2pm as part of The Big Help Out, highlighting the positive impact volunteering has on communities across the nation. Local charitable and voluntary organisations such as Wootton Park Association will provide an opportunity for villagers to find out more about the work they do in the community and to volunteer their time and help as an individual, business, or organisation.

More information on the Coronation Big Lunch can be found on the village hall’s website and social media feeds.
