Christmas Trees fit for a King

Paul Crown talks about how to look after your Christmas tree.

"If you are looking for a Christmas tree with long soft needles, perfect for homes with children and/or pets, a nice symmetrical shape and good needle retention, then look no further than the Nordmann Fir," says Paul. No wonder then that it is the UK's best selling tree.

Its botanical name is Abies nordmanniana and The English Garden Newsletter tells us it is named after the 19th century Finnish zoologist Alexander von Nordmann, a former director of Odessa Botanical Garden, Ukraine.

Paul puts the tree through the wrapper ready for transportation

There are around two hundred trees of varying sizes on sale at Sandringham Sawmill which can be found on Admiral's Drive, Sandringham, PE35 6EG. Just drive in through the gates, there's plenty of space to park and you can walk around the trees to choose the one that's just right for you. Your tree will be put through the wrapper and when you get it home just unwrap the tree, cut half and inch off the bottom of the trunk and make sure you put it in water.

"A tree is just like any plant, it likes to drink water, put it in a stand that you can put water in as well, keep the tree watered and don't stand it near a radiator - keep it away from heat and that will last till after Christmas," he added.
