Christmas lights, magic, and vintage fairgrounds for Girlguiding!

One incredible winter's evening, 40 very excited members of Snettisham & Sandringham Rainbows, Brownies and Guides were invited to the Royal Parkland for a dazzling mile-long light trail to kick off their Christmas 2024 with some magic and sparkle.

Animated woodland statues greeted their arrival, leading them on to see some incredible light installations which started with an interactive light box game - “it looks like a giant Rubik's cube!” Was heard from a Guide who became victorious when she won the challenge.

Rainbows and Brownies were delighted when the trees and shrubbery turned into the most enchanted fairyland. Many young voices squealed “I can see them! I can see them!" oozing with happiness as they spotted twirling fairies! Everywhere they looked were captivated by the twinkling lights, lasers, and tiny little doors.

Following the dancing light trail and a field of orchestral colourful flowers, most stopped for toasted giant marshmallows and a much needed, warming, hot chocolate. Fortified, they headed further into the dark woods enjoying more what Luminate had to offer.

After a massive group photography in front of the ‘Luminate’ festive light , so many they all obliterated the lights, the Christmas tree maze beckoned leading them into a Fun House. More squeals, giggles and laughter emanated throughout the house as they balanced, slipped, glided, climbed to finally descend in a slide to end with a turning hamster wheel. One leader was up for the challenge, created the star shape but ended up in a pile on the floor - which one Guide proceeded to show how it was done by completing one full turn before skipping happily away.

Ending the frosty night, the final surprise awaited the young members and adult volunteers- a Vintage fairground! The delightful traditional sounds of the fair made them all dash off to the Galloping horses and Helter skelter - enjoyed by all. An unexpected twist to the magical evening.

Gathered around Sandringham Estate’s Christmas tree, some Sandringham Guides made their Girlguiding promise beside the huge Christmas tree making the start of their Girlguiding journey even more special and unique.

What a great start to the festive season! The girls were thrilled to enjoy the experience together; their excitement was tangible.

Everything was made possible by the dedication and hard work of the Luminate and Sandringham team along with our amazing Girlguiding volunteers. We truly appreciate all their efforts, and we couldn't have had such a magical experience without them.
