The bridge in the Tesco side of Hardwick Road Cemetery has been closed to vehicles immediately following an issue being reported by the Friends of the Hardwick Road Cemetery and the council's grounds staff.
Urgent repair works have been ordered to make the bridge safe for vehicles. In the meantime the bridge is open only for pedestrian and wheelchair access.
Cllr Paul Kunes, Cabinet Member with responsibility for the the crematorium and cemeteries, said: "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to visitors, but will work swiftly to get the bridge made safe so that it can reopen as soon as possible."
