Amongst the attendees were people who had either been through the Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer journeys themselves.

The fundraising event at Knights Hill Hotel in September was organised by the Breast of Friends who are a team of volunteer fund raisers some of whom have been through Breast Cancer treatment at the QEH and who wanted to show their appreciation for the treatment and care they have received from the breast care unit at the hospital.

Once again, the Breast of Friends team worked hard to organise the event, secure sponsorships and gather in some great Raffle/Auction prizes from some very generous people and organisations from the local community and some nationally recognised businesses. The Ball was attended by 172 people this year, all of whom were treated to a night of dining and entertainment, the attendees also showed their appreciation by supporting by the raffle and auction on the night which helped towards the total raised at the event. Amongst the attendees were people who had either been through the Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer journeys themselves or indeed have had both family and friends who have, the entertainment on the night was supplied by local band Jessie’s Ghost and DJ Jack Neville.

The monies raised for both charitable organisations will go towards the purchase of equipment, help in the research and support of the ongoing treatment of patients accessing the QEH Breast Care Unit and Prostate Cancer UK, the event also tied in with another fund raising team from Pippa’s Pantry at Sutton Bridge who had themselves had done a calendar girls style calendar for Prostate Cancer and some of the attendees were themselves appearing in the calendar, a number of the calendars were sold on the night benefitting Prostate Cancer UK.

A speech thanking everyone for their support was given by Jeanette Kidd on the night, she was able to thank the team, without whom the evening would not have been a success, Deborah Wright, Claire Ling, Anne Merchant, Gary Merchant, David Bowman, Denise Williamson, Nick Williamson and Paul Kidd.

The Breast of Friends team are holding a third ball this time at Briarfield’s Titchwell 2023 in an effort to raise more funds for the unit and additionally the Chemotherapy Unit at the QEH to assist in ongoing support for the fabulous work undertaken at both the units in providing care and support the local community.
