Big C benefits from Mintlyn donation

Cllr Geoff Hipperson, the Mayor of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk, and Cllr Paul Kunes, Borough Council Cabinet member for Climate Change and Commercial Services, presented Dr Chris Bushby, Chief Executive at Big C with a cheque for £10,000 towards Big C Cancer Charity this morning.

The money has been raised through a charitable scheme, operated by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM), of which Mintlyn is a member. Under the scheme metal from medical implants is recycled after cremation, with the consent of the family of the deceased. Twice a year the institute asks its scheme members to nominate local charities, which help to support people to cope with the death of loved ones, to receive a donation.

Cllr Kunes said: “Over the last nine years Mintlyn Crematorium has raised thousands of pounds for many worthy local causes through this scheme. I’m delighted to be presenting this cheque to The Big C, a charity who have been improving the lives of those affected by cancer in Norfolk for the last 40 years.

“2020 has been a difficult year for most of us and I know that many charities have been affected by the pandemic. I hope this donation helps the Big C to continue the vital support they give to our community.”

Dr Chris Bushby, Chief Executive at Big C, said “Grateful thanks to the Mintlyn Crematorium for their loyal support of Big C. Donations towards our local work supporting those affected by cancer are always vital, but never more than this year, which has been even more challenging than usual for those with cancer. It has also been a difficult year for the charitable sector and this contribution will make a valuable difference to those in our community who need our support.”
