A triumphant finale at Burnham Thorpe

A triumphant finale at Burnham Thorpe
Ella McCready and Ian McGregor

Who needs to travel to London when you have this quality of music on your doorstep?

Music in Thorpe has provided us with some of the best music this summer and aims to go out with an exceptional weekend of first-class music.

Brenda Stewart is the current rector of Wells next the Sea and Holkham benefice, but she was formerly a professional musician. She and husband Steve Bingham will perform an intriguing and unusual mixture of duos using the violin, viola, electric violins, and looping. Alongside the rich standard repertoire that includes the wonderful violin and viola duets by Mozart and violin duets by the likes of Telemann, Bartok and Wieniawski, Steve and Brenda can add a panoply of other duo works by composers such as Judith Weir, Michael Jackson, Arvo Pärt, Massive Attack, The Eagles and Fleetwood Macand solo works by Bach, Piazzolla and more! What an evening on Friday September 10th at 7pm. Tickets £10.

Ella McCready is a soul and pop artist hailing from London and she and her accompanist Ian McGregor will present a wide-ranging programme with music from London’s West End musicals, jazz standards, sing-along tunes, and soaring ballads. Already singing to sold-out audiences in Edinburgh and London she will certainly make the Nelson church at Burnham Thorpe zing with glorious music on Saturday September 11 at 7pm. Enjoy supper at the newly renovated Lord Nelson inn in the village beforehand. This is looking like another sit back and totally enjoy an evening at Music in Thorpe. Tickets £12.50

Leo Popplewell (‘cello) and Antonina Suhanova (piano) have already created an impressive career for themselves in the music world and it is a huge privilege to be welcoming them back to Norfolk having had an impressive first trip to the North Norfolk Music Festival. Between them they have played in the major concert halls of the world from New York to Edinburgh and their programme of Schubert, Debussy and Rachmaninov will end our summer series of concerts at Burnham Thorpe with a resounding flourish. Tickets for Sunday September 12 at 4pm are £10 and tea and cakes served from 3pm.
