Linda Watkinson honoured with the prestigious Laurel Award.
This International Women’s Day wasn't just a global celebration—it was a deeply personal one for our Girlguiding community here in Norfolk.
On Sunday, March 8th, the air was thick with excitement and a very well-kept secret as friends, family, and fellow volunteers gathered at The Anvil in Congham to pull off the "ultimate surprise" for one of our most beloved members: Linda Watkinson.

In a moment filled with cheers and more than a few happy tears, Linda, who lives in Gayton and runs Gayton Guides, was presented with the Laurel Award. As one of the highest honours within Girlguiding, it is reserved for those rare individuals who go above and beyond, making a lasting impact across Districts, Divisions, and the entire County.
Linda’s journey has been defined by a genuine passion for supporting and nurturing people. Whether she was leading a unit or mentoring new volunteers, her warmth has truly been the heartbeat of our Guiding community.
The celebration was a masterclass in Guiding teamwork! To keep the surprise under wraps, we transformed the space with beautiful flowers and decorations, ensuring Linda didn't suspect a thing. The afternoon featured a delicious buffet, filled with treats and shared laughter, also a challenge quiz keeping everyone on their toes.
The highlight was the presentation of the beautiful Silver Laurel leaf brooch and certificate, presented by Pat Pinnington, President of Girlguiding Norfolk.

"I'm so delighted that Linda has been awarded the Laurel Award," shared Catherine, District Commissioner. "She has inspired girls and fellow leaders alike, creating so many Guiding memories and experiences!"
"The room was full of living proof of Linda’s impact. I was personally so pleased to be there to witness it; I was one of Linda's original Guides back in 1992, and she eventually inspired me to become a leader myself" Yo - Snettisham Guide leader.
As the afternoon drew to a close, the sentiment was unanimous: we were all so happy to see Linda’s hard work and heart finally recognised. It was a perfect tribute to a woman who has given so much of herself to others. Congratulations, Linda! Thank you for being the light that guides so many of us.
